LORI JUNE KIPP
April 21, 1972 - March 26, 2011

From Lori's Facebook page, "favorite quotations":  To be a star you must shine your own light, follow your own path, and don't worry about the darkness, for that is when stars shine brightest!

Lori was born with the genetic disease Cystic Fibrosis, which she bravely battled all her life. But her death was so sudden, many have asked "what happened?"

Lori had been in the hospital at Stanford for almost 3 weeks on one of her “routine” visits. This was not unusual; she had been hospitalized dozens and dozens of times during her 38 years. Things were not going particularly well, but nothing seemed life-threatening.  Then Friday evening she had huge bleeding from the lungs (hemoptysis).  That was brought under control fairly quickly, and by Saturday mid-day she seemed to be doing relatively OK.  But Saturday afternoon there was more bleeding.  So the doctors performed catheter-type surgery of the lungs to try to find and stop it.  Lori was heavily sedated and not breathing well after the surgery, but appeared to be at least holding her own. Then about 10 p.m. she gave a big cough – and everything broke loose.  She lost so much blood so fast that even heroic efforts could not save her.  She was gone within about 30 minutes. The world lost an angel.
